Ministries at st. timothy's
St. Timothy's has a variety of ministries and service opportunities. From participating in worship to planning parish dinners or teaching a class, there is something for everyone. Whatever your talents or interests we have a way for you to get involved - we
have a place for you. Here is just a sampling:
In the midst of our diversity, there is one place where we all unite and that is around the table. In worship, we come together around the Lord’s Table for Holy Communion. At St. Timothy’s everyone is invited to the altar rail to receive bread and wine, or a blessing. We offer gluten-free communion wafers and a non-alcoholic chalice.
We also gather to share food and fellowship at coffee hour after church, at elaborate suppers, informal cookouts and simple potlucks. We are always renewing our bond with God and with one another.
Mission and Outreach
Locally, we provide food to North Light Community Center's food bank. At Christmas we provide gifts and food for families through North Light. Each Spring we host families from the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network. Each month we provide Holy Communion to the residents of the Masonic Home. Nationally, we work to support St. Timothy’s Barnes Mountain, in Kentucky. Our mission team works on building projects and we also provide gifts at Christmas time.
Christian Education for All Ages
We offer “Godly Play” for pre-school and elementary school. Sunday School meets from late September through Mid June, 10:45 until 11:10. Children and teachers start in church, leave for lessons and then return in time for communion.
For adults and older children, the clergy host a discussion forum covering a range of topics, such as weekly Bible readings, our worship styles and habits, and discovering new ways to pray. The forum begins at 9:15 on Sundays.
Vacation Bible School
One of the highlights of the summer is VBS. Our VBS is creatively themed and dynamic. For one week in each summer we provide Bible Stories, Crafts and Snacks for children ages 4 and up. This 3 hour program is open to all children.
St. Timothy's has a long history of musical excellence. Dr. Seunghee Cho directs our choir in creating beautiful and uplifting music every Sunday as part of the 10:30am Eucharist. Primarily made of volunteers, our choir is augmented by three professional section leaders. Instrumentalists join in for high holy days and other special occasions. New voices are always welcome! To learn more about our music please contact Dr. Cho. Our Wicks organ was completely rebuilt and installed by the Buzard Company in 2006.
